Well said, and the phenomenon is often even more problematic. People don't just outsource opinion-making, they begin to identify with an imagined subjectivity that holds such opinions. This imagined subjectivity is a sort of expressive and repressive fantasy that is clearly visible in the intolerance, hostility and bad-faith that is frequently demonstrated by these people against others who hold different views. Outsourcing for convenience alone cannot explain this.
