That's one of the things that hurts a lot of sci-fi as it ages. They almost never guess what future computing is going to be like. If the movie was made in the 70s or 80s, invariably their depiction of what a computer interface in 2261 would look like is still 8 bits, CRTs, and a big ol' IBM keyboard...
