São Paulo registered the lowest temperature of the year on Thursday (29), 12.4°C, at 7am, at Mirante de Santana, according to the Civil Defense. The temperature drop is due to a cold front that arrived in the metropolitan region of São Paulo on Wednesday (28), causing many wind gusts and tree falls. On Thursday, the polar air mass that follows the cold front also arrived and dropped the temperatures. The CGE (Climate Emergency Management Center) of the São Paulo City Hall recorded a lower temperature. According to the agency, thermometers reached 11.2°C in the southernmost part. During the day, the cloudiness decreases and the sun returns between clouds, but without elevating the temperature. Maximum temperatures are not expected to exceed 19°C. The polar air mass maintains low temperatures, mainly during the early morning hours. Friday (30) is expected to be cold, with little cloudiness and temperatures around 8°C during the early morning hours. During the day, the sun will dominate and help reduce the feeling of cold, but the temperature is not expected to exceed 20°C, according to the CGE. On Saturday (31), the sun will appear between clouds and slightly elevate the temperature. Thermometers will range from minimums of 13°C to maximums that can reach 24°C. Among the emergency measures of Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) is the installation of a shelter at Pedro 2nd station on the 3rd red line of the subway, dubbed Solidarity Shelter. The structure will operate until Sunday (1st), from 7pm to 8am, with a capacity for 100 people. The city will also provide ambulances and chemical toilets at points in the city. The Civil Defense is preparing to distribute blankets and basic items to other municipalities, such as Itapeva and Vale do Ribeira, where minimums can reach 5°C. Meanwhile, the management of Ricardo Nunes (MDB) will restart on Thursday the structure of the Low Temperature Operation, activated whenever the temperature or thermal sensation reaches 13°C or less. Ten tents will be set up in strategic points of the capital, operating from 6pm to 12am. The locations will have soup, bread, hot chocolate, tea, water, blankets, and referral to the social assistance network. Each tent will have an ambulance and medical team.
