Sometimes I meet foreign or non Bay Area tech folks who are quite anti-homeless, and who think homeless people chose to be that way. I don’t bother to engage them on ethics or philosophy or even empathy anymore. I just say, the apartments in this area (and everywhere) are around US$3000-5000. You can only rent if you make 3x that monthly. Can *you* afford that right now?
And very quickly they shut up about it. They just haven’t thought about it before.
