Speaking of books, have you ever read any John Irving? He has 2 books about trans people, "In One Person" & "The Last Chairlift". I wasn't sure if he had "credentials" for writing them, but l I learned that his daughter is trans ... Eva Everett Irving, actress & writer. He wrote them for her.
