I am not sure I have it right, but Zionism is more parallel to the political movements that exploded across the world after the fall of Empires in WW1. It isn't so much anti-Nazi, even if the Holocaust also fed into the State of Israel, but it's too old to be just that. The Pogroms and the huge Emigration to the USA are part of the story.
How much the parallels to Britain and Ireland matter, I am not at all sure. It seems to me that the genuine hard men can make deals. Their successors are the dangerous failures.
