But something clicked in my brain when I read a 1970s letter to the editor by longtime affordable housing advocate Jean Swanson. She was protesting the destruction of single family homes in Grandview-Woodland, because their replacements (three story walk up apartments) would be less affordable.
Fast forward to 2018 and these apartments were the affordable housing and I was living in one! The single family homes had 3x-4x higher rent
