To get a sense of "17+04" UX options:
- Open 0xchat and start a chat with someone. This will be a NIP17 chat.
- Go to Primal and send a message there. That message (NIP 04) will appear in the same 0xchat chat with a warning bubble which if tapped states "This message is not a gift-wrapped message"
Of course 0xchat needs to implement both specs, but that's at least how the UX can achieve a sense of backwards compatibility without it actually being backwards compatible.
