Seeing a lot of ill-informed, reactionary takes about a new Canadian law that requires companies like Google to pay news publishers for the links shown in their search results.
I thoroughly hate to be on Google’s side, but the outrage is ridiculous so I’m posting this thread in the spirit of informed decision making.
The law’s purpose is to aid “the sustainability of news businesses in Canada”, and it’s being pushed by a Canadian Minister who is obviously quite ignorant of how the internet works (see article linked below for details).
