Reminder that in January and February of 2020, a lot of Western epidemiologists thought Covid couldn't happen here. They didn't have any good reason for thinking that, but if humans are too safe for too long, they inevitably fall prey to a "nothing ever happens" mentality, and hence become negligent, which opens the door for really bad things to happen. We haven't been heeding the warnings, and worse things are yet to come.
