After being burnt by various binary package incompatibilities on my initial SuSE Linux installations, in 2002 I bootstrapped Linux from Scratch on my first laptop and ran it for two years. That was a really interesting learning experience, but managing wise, it turned out to be tough. After that, I switched to #Gentoo #Linux and never looked back.
