I'd say if you've found your community on Mastodon and it's got a lot of value for you (and hopefully you for it), Mastodon is thriving. It doesn't need to be more complicated than that
I’m not sure most people here particularly need or even want Mastodon to be anywhere near the number users Facebook or Instagram have
