There's no need to protect popular speech. No one is trying to suppress it. It's unpopular speech that needs protecting. And the more vile, hateful, bigoted, racist, and antigovernment it is, the more it needs protecting.
One of life's little jokes is in order to protect liberty you have to protect the rights of people you really can't stand.
