My favorite part is definitely about doing valuable, essential work.
Also it isn't a 9 to 5, at a desk, crunching numbers (not that I couldn't get really hot about such work).
On the ICU, I get to use my brain too and I'm trusted by my peers. I love it.
You learn so much from nursing. You basically learn life. The good and bad. It requires you to be sensible, but it's not for the faint of heart.
But also... it isn't a 9 to 5.
Meaning no routine, which makes it hard to get enough sleep and gets me really anxious and messed up.
For over a year, we've been only for people left in the team... Meaning that we've got to cover the shifts... Not possible to get sick... No rest, no pause and, as the emergency team couldn't cover night shifts, we've got to cover those too...
Alone! Monitoring ward AND Emergency. Doctor goes to sleep, as they can't power 24 hours through... And you try to work as indenpendently as possible.
Management now tries to save as much money as possible: the lab got closed and we send it to another city.
Emergency Labs we have to cover with POCT.
Yeah... it's much work. Emotionally and physically draining.
And I Germany, people don't really get tge work we do.
Basic care is all what comes to mind to them.
But I still love the profession and wouldn't change it for the world ;)
How about you?
