It still sticks in my craw that there are so many experts that are squeamish over the idea that elephants self-domesticated. It's plausible, just as long as you are comfortable with saying the same thing about humans. It may be more proper to say "domestication by members of their own species." It is a reasonable, if slightly fanciful, description for organizing an extended family into a prehistoric agrarian community and driving anyone that would not cooperate with elders into perilous exile.
