As a High School student in the early 90s I coded a shitty shareware DOS piano program that saved ANSI Music so I could play a theme song when you dialed into my BBS. A dozen or so people from around the country mailed me a check. Words can't describe how wonderful it felt knowing a stranger ran my code! The money bought a fast food dinner at most, and I lost the source code and .EXE long ago... but the experience shaped me.
I think that was my coding origin story. What's Yours?
