Been here for 24 hours now, I think its time for an #introduction. I've been trying to wane myself off of centralised corporate social media for the past couple of years, by doing more blogging and also having a look at some de-centralised alternatives.

Have used #Mastodon & other #ActivityPub applications for a few years - and while some apps like #Pixelfed are good and shows much potential, Mastodon is rapidly centralising and as a result turning into a few large echo-chambers, unsuitable for any kind of political discussion, give it a few years and with ever larger blocklists it'll be barely federated. I've run my own instances for years and really want it to work, but its really hard to encourage people to sign up when the servers the official apps now push are so heavily censored, and they can't even find half the accounts I recommend. :-|

Oh and its nice to see people talking about crypto without being piled on here. :-)

Mainly interested in technology and #politics, work as an IT Manager during the day, plays with various tech things at night. Do enjoy #history, a bit of #photography, #motorcycling. Politically a #socialist, Labour Party (UK) member for 17 years, *not* happy with #Starmer though - that should sum up my politics. :-)

Currently using #Plebstr on Android and trying out various web-based applications on PC and haven't quite settled on one yet, am open to recommendations.

Thanks for all the welcomes I've had from people so far.
