In 2012, a student strike happened in Quebec by the Coalition large de l'ASSÉ (CLASSE), a temporary coalition of 67 associations representing 100,000 students, demanding free education. The strike, which lasted from February to September 2012, reached a peak in March, when nearly 300,000 students across the province were on strike. « La grève est étudiante, la lutte est populaire » (“The strike is student-led, the struggle is for all.”)
