I was a young idealistic liberal following the invasion of Iraq. I was galvanized by friends and family returning from war broken as well as the idea that the war was unjust. I remember a time when liberal values were anti-war, free speech, and personal sovereignty (marry who you want and smoke what you want, just don’t hurt other people).
