an interesting development if you've been paying attention is that corporations do not have a monopoly on AI technology, in fact open source, small specialized models that can iterate faster have been progressing so quickly that they are making corporate models obsolete. yes corporations are pushing AI on us in oppressive ways and that's bad, but if the technology itself can't be repressed then there may be some hope still of an open AI frontier.
