This was actually part of why Blaseball fell apart so hard. They spent a lot of time listening to their discord. The discord users thought they were The Core Players. The devs thought the discord users were The Core Players. Then towards the later part of Blaseball's life, they actually sent out an email survey to players. And found out that the overall player population was COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than the discord people. They wanted completely different things from the game, they didn't give a shit with or even at all interact with the more fandomy elements...the discord people weren't the average players at all! Because the average user of almost anything doesn't join a discord for it.
