Really unfortunate experience report from Rui Ueyama, the author of the 'mold' linker project:

In short, they tried to build a business from their successful open source project and found it hard to sustain.
Granted, it seems Rui was interested in making significant money from it, but even for valuable work like mold making a good living from open source work is not guaranteed.
Perhaps target user matters most?Businesses don't really want to pay for something "free".
