1. Musk bragged about the family emerald mine.
2. Musk, not liking it contradicting his "self-made" mythology, said the mine didn't exist, and he'd pay anyone who could prove it did.
3. Musk's dad came forward:
Italian guy who owned an airstrip in Zambia was paying locals $2/load to dig emeralds out of a rock they didn't own, and Musk's dad made a deal, presumably to help smuggle and launder them.
