One big reason why I like this game is because it feels like a Tales game with lots of the fat trimmed off. I loathe Tales games for the ridiculous number of easily-missilble content and bullshit scenarios & mechanics meant to waste literal hundreds of hours of your life. I dread ever picking up Tales of Vesperia ever again because of it all
A pox upon Vesperia, whose characters I honestly thought were less intriguing than Star Ocean 2R’s (most Tales games expect you to spend 500 hours unlocking everything with some of the most quirky or annoying cast imaginable…actual Stockholm syndrome and torture)…and for those Tales games without missions content, they have brain rot customization features worse than any gatcha.
Star Ocean 2R ensures you never miss an event or side quest in the game unless you want to. It is absolutely anbetter experience to hint on the world map that new events become available and whether they are timed (missable). The feeling is just so much better, and you can still spend up to a hundred+ hours of game time, but now you’re actually playing the game and enjoying the content.
