Stratum V2 is a new mining protocol for Bitcoin, aiming to address issues of censorship and centralization present in Stratum V1.
It enables individual miners to construct their own candidate blocks, reducing the power of mining pools to censor transactions.
Developed in 2019 by Braiins pool, and released as an open-source reference implementation in March 2024, Stratum V2 also enhances security and performance, attracting more miners to adopt it.
By encrypting communications and using binary code, it improves efficiency and reduces the likelihood of empty blocks.
While it doesn't directly address payment transparency, efforts are underway to create benchmarking tools for informed decision-making regarding the benefits of moving from Stratum V1 to V2.
Stratum V2's adoption could strengthen the decentralization and censorship resistance of Bitcoin mining.
