I think this debate if anything has highlighted how poorly the devs handled this situation and how unreceptive they were to community input. You can rightfully point out that core development is a meritocracy and we plebs don’t really have a say in it unless we become actively involved, but what’s important is HOW the situation was handled. First, by banning a justifiable statement about a conflict of interest, followed by muting of opposing opinions by flagging as duplicate, AND by being crass with statements such as “you don’t understand bitcoin” and “this is not up for debate”.
I think bitcoin mechanic correctly stated that bitcoin IS a community and communities DO have a culture and bitcoin’s culture is about openness and inclusivity, not shutting down the conversation. The AMA was the right step forward but not without harm done to the community.
This is a difficult conversation. I disagree with the decision to merge the Bitcoin Core pull request that removes OP_RETURN limits, especially given the ongoing controversy around it. Fortunately, I have options. I can choose not to upgrade or migrate elsewhere, such as to Bitcoin Knots (nprofile…m9s8).
