When SF was flush with so much jingoistic pro-military stuff from writers like Heinlein and Jerry Pournelle, Harry Harrison wrote Bill the Galactic Hero (which is very funny) and popped the balloon. It's probably my first realization as a young teenager that art is a conversation.
And every ttrpg I've made is a conversation within the landscape of ttrpgs.
