I struggle a lot with digital audio mastering. Given space and money, I'd dedicate a mastering rack with at least $2K in equipment. Otherwise, I'm using stock digital plug ins from Logic Pro.
People say you need headroom but I've always treated as-close-to-zero as the goal with all digital signals. Turns out I was right.
So in digital audio mastering, there is no use for headroom. You want to compress the shit out of it without degrading the dynamics completely.
