1. You don't need to run a node, remote nodes exists, with no sacrifice of your privacy.
2. Obviously L2s exist for monero, but nobody is really concerned about that atm because the base layer just werks(tm). And running a node is not pain, it's less storage than Bitcoin even, with pruning functioning as well.
3. Transaction sizes right now are high, because Monero doesn't simply put the transaction amounts for plain view, most of the size (like half) comes from that, however that has gone down by 15% since the introduction of BP+, BP++ seems to offer another 5%. Before that CLSAG at the end of 2020 brought down transaction sizes by 20%. ringCT brought down sizes by 85%, etc. So the technology is improving, check out https://moneroj.net/transactionsize/ for the exact record. Yes Monero has larger transactions then Bitcoin, but that doesn't mean that it will stay this way, nor that it's bad. After all, a PGP signature increases computational and storage needs. SMS is much more lightweight! Your argument goes.
4. The tech community at large is has begun to shift towards Monero. Hackers, DNMs, cryptographers, young libertarians. The original fanbase of Bitcoin in its early days is gone.
And Bitcoin doesn't adopt new features because the code has been ossified since years. Notice how the people who code on Bitcoin are called "maintainers", and the people who code on Monero are called "developers". Plus add the fact that most of the devs are involved with BlockStream or LN, with huge stacks of Bitcoin from the earlier days. So there is no incentive to innovate on your coin.
