Like you I read a lot of fantasy/sci-fi. I would say characters tend to be balanced m/f. Authors tend to skew male a bit (probably due to genre choice) But notably my favorite fantasy series is by female Robin Hobb. I am also big fan of Rebecca Roanhorse, waiting on the next black sun novel.
