"Maxima in a space" mathematically has no sense. It should be maxima of set of functions, or constraints. What is the space itself (is it a vector space? A surface?) and the nature of all abstract objects is not defined (what does it mean to "fix a dimension"? Is this a projection operator of some kind?). To me it seems like a bad analogy or lack of math understanding.
