bleh, i hate it here, but also the media is really doing a bad job at reporting here. This content (the SSN leak) has been around for ages. The hacker USDoD just released it for free instead of putting the leak behind a paywall.
So in other words, the feds really gotta stop collecting so much personal info if they cannot keep it secure. The feds are terrible at security.
