There's no point in being kind to someone who's gone out of their way to be nasty or to undermined you. You don't have to go out of your way to retaliate, but you don't have to help them or make life easy for them. If they engage with you, you don't owe them kindness. There's no moral high ground or whatever here. You just lose even more if you show them your "generosity" - they won't appreciate it and they will just use it to their advantage...
