Junior Murvin. Police & Thieves
Part of the mid-70s reggae boom, Police & Thieves was heard everywhere in London in my teens. Murvin's reedy voice over a Lee Perry rhythm track (my 12" copy has three more Perry 'versions') is a stone cold reggae classic. You can almost imagine this should have been on the Harder They Come soundtrack.
Of course, you may already know the Clash's cover version (homage) on their debut LP.
