thegreatape :gentoo: :nixos: :sway: (npub1j5l…wxv4) Rheristies 🇦🇱 (npub1yrl…306u) Dumb Idiot Retard (npub1074…r3s0) Issues with this, based on the "Made in New Zealand" that's prominent on the package and the nearest US version.
A New Zealand Dollar is 61% of a US Dollar, an Australian Dollar if that's exported to there is 66% of a USD.
Almost has to be low volume production compared to the US, and higher shipping costs if it's exported outside of New Zealand. NZ is freaking tiny by US standards, 1.6% the people and 1.4% the size. Adding Australasia and the Pacific Islands where Made In New Zealand Marmite is sold per Wikipedia doesn't really help.
Although it's a higher quality offering than the US one I detail below, per a Brave image search 17 g of protein, 50 g net weight, 62% of the standard US but 35% more protein. So ... is the claim even real? Eyeballing Gini and per capita GDPs New Zealand is much less wealthy than the US; is this an uncommon treat to break the monotony of a mostly Marmite diet???
Here in flyover country in the US, Walmart is selling for $4.98 USD a 2.85 oz/81 g, 11 g of protein bag. Which is still outrageous (and being retired and on a small budget I've stopped buying beef jerkey), but....
