NeXTStep was a major step forward. MacOS was a compromise but was y'know... much better than the alternatives.
Recently tho'... nothing from Ample Computer. If Linux ever gets it together with a unified desktop (aka real copy+paste), the phone, latop+other categories will flip on their head again.
It's a wonder that Linux hasn't filled this slot ~30 years later. And that the smartphone os options aren't better.
