I don't think the average random non-nerd would be too interested in Nostr. Managing cryptography keys and working around its eccentricities is probably not worth it for Twitter like functionality.

IMO, the way that Nostr and the decentralized social media ecosystem as a whole grows is via bridges and platforms. Places like Threads, Bluesky, WordPress, Tumblr (upcoming) and more are all successful because of their polish and being focused on the end user.

Bridges also really open up the ecosystem too. Be it chatting with a threads user or with somebody hosting their own Mastodon instance, connecting everything through bridges makes it one big ecosystem.

IMO Nostr as well as all the self hosted space (Mastodon, AT PDSs, etc) won't ever be non-niche - but ideally that wouldn't matter if someone on any of them can interact with most social media users.

My 2c anyway.
