So, that makes sense what you're saying about the dialectical materialism thing, and I really want to be fair by saying that I think I clearly left out enough context from the conversation, both in tone and substance, that would make it seem more matter of fact than a demonization of people who can't distinguish. That's my fault in relaying it, not my friend's fault. Which, given the fact that the point of the full post on my website (and not just this excerpt) had to do with *not* judging people for not having access and to be open to explaining even the most basic concepts, to build solidarity and deconstruct indoctrination, makes it relevant, but I truly wasn't meaning to paint my friend in that light. Again, my fault.
I'm going to push back a little and only gently on the idea that it's harmful to distinguish in all cases, but mind you, I'm an anarchist without adjectives. I don't believe, for example, that anarcho-syndicalism, democratic socialism, or MLM are the same thing (and I don't think you think they're the same thing, either, this is just an example).
And I realize that the reply might be a form of *no true Scotsman* and what constitutes *real* Communism/Socialism/Anarchism, but I also believe these terms are also useful for understanding approaches, not only for what *works* but for what *doesn't* work, or for what isn't desired.
I also believe that even under what Western leftists think of or describe as anarchism/communism/socialism fall within very Western and white centered thinking, and of course it would, because while anarchism/communism/socialism have existed in many times and places, the terminology are primarily created as a *reaction* to Western oppression, as opposed to, again for example, indigenous tradition.
Not all concepts of communism, etc., must inherently look the same.
All things are connected, just as kyriarchy is intersectional, which means many pronged approaches to revolution (and no, I definitely don't mean vanguard).
For yet another example, I have solidarity with concepts with either worker or communal ownership of the means of production; however, I don't ultimately actually believe in these things to my core-- I don't believe in concepts of ownership at all. I believe in responsibility and both individual and collective stewardship *not ownership*. But I can see the ownership model as useful at times.
