Perhaps I'm just delusional?
I've had any number of senior colleagues and managers push me to apply for positions at the next level up, telling me I'm better than at least half the people in those positions already.
Quietly I know I've only got a few years left of work, hoping to retire well before 60, but I don't disclose that info at work.
I end up applying for these positions and then getting told I'm not good enough to even make the merit list. Which is very demotivating despite me not really wanting the position in the first place (minimal extra $$ for a lot of extra stress).
Are these managers, etc, just blowing smoke up me arse?
Anyway, probably time to cut my losses here and transfer out. I may not have time to work up more levels elsewhere, but I'll "expand my experience" and reduce my internalized shame at not being deemed 'good enough'.
