Helping people who need it doesn't come with built in resentments, but it's very common. It takes people on both sides who can let go of it and move on.
That old advice about take care of your own mask is real, though. If you find yourself overwhelmed with other people's problems, step back. The people who love you will understand. (Quite a number of those who don't love you will, too.)
