It's not a question of fashion. Configuration management is still necessary -- as long as we have physical VMs (and that includes the ones that host Kubernetes).
How about a cross-platform Desired State Configuration agent written in Rust?
There's no central server, and in fact, there's no sync of config at all yet, so it's still very early.
