Removing society entirely and assuming communities of humans that collaborate, I think in general at least the mother will bond most with a young child due to the process of feeding and responsibility that comes with it. And a child may bond initially more to the mother for that reason (and father, if they're involved). Just repeated exposure and reliance for feeding.
If feeding is being done by multiple females, though, which are also lactating then it probably comes down to those that do it the most often and treat the child the best.
Parenthood as it exists in our society is artificial and forced, but in a natural setting it wouldn't entirely disappear. It would just become an optional relationship at a much earlier age. Which would be good.
