Fritillaria meleagris, the snakes head fritillary.
The only flower I know that has a chequered pattern on its petals.
These flourish in my little front garden bringing springtime interest to an area that is swamped by large perennials later in the summer.
They are naturalised, (growing wild), in parts of the UK.
